In a typical headshot session…
Here’s a typical workflow for an actor (audition) and creative headshots. (For business headshot sessions, some parts are abbreviated, but the general flow is the same.)
Look at your outfit options
Say, if you booked to shoot three outfits. We’ll hang them all on a garment rack, look at the color, cut, texture, etc. and decide which ones will look best on you in the photographs. You’re welcome to bring extra options to choose from.
Professional makeup artist
If you opt for a professional makeup artist, she will work with you at this time. Typically, makeup takes 45 to 60 min, and light hair styling takes 15 min. You’ll be able to ask all your daily makeup questions during this time.
Shoot first outfit look
We’ll shoot a bunch of pictures. You’ll get to see your expression on mirror, at least for the beginning. You’ll get to see some on camera screen, as well, but we’ll mostly will keep talking and photograph some more. (About 20—30 min.)
Review the images
While you are changing into the second outfit, or getting a makeup touchup, we’ll review and choose the best image so far. Because of this visual feedback and learning process, you’ll perform better in the next steps. (About 15—25 min)
Shoot the second/third/fourth outfit looks
Same as the first outfit, repeated.
Review and select images
We’ll go through all the images on a professional image review system in which you can compare multiple images to make a shortlist, and then further narrow down until we decide on the best image from each outfit.
It sometimes happens that you would rather have two images from the later outfit and none from the first outfit, because you’ll generally do better in the later part of the session.
At this time, if you are unhappy with all images you have, and you’re confident that you can do much better, we can go back to do a quick re-shoot of the last outfit. However, we have never had to do this so far.
Discuss options to finish
In most instances, we’ll discuss how to crop, retouch and finish your headshot. You get to watch your skin blemishes and wrinkles disappear on the screen.
Finished photographs
After the final selection is made, we’ll take a few days to complete retouching work and prepare printable files for you. They will be delivered through a download link, which will be emailed to you with a simple instruction.
If you are in rush, please indicate this at the time of booking. We will try to allocate extra time to your session so that we can complete retouching of at least one image while you wait. In this case, you will be asked to pay the fee in cash.
